Fox Rent a Car Guayaquil Airport: what do users think?
Todd B: TOTAL SCAM. Pay the higher price somewhere else.I rented a vehicle from Fox for 25 days. I declined the insurance because my credit card provides it. I was told I would have to have a $7000 hold on my credit card if I didn't buy the insurance. I said okay. I was told my credit card had declined the hold. I called my credit card, and they said no such request had been made, but that it would be approved once the request was made. When I told them that they hadn't requested the hold, they changed their story and said it was their bank that wouldn't allow it. REALLY? Unfortunately, when I looked online, the other car rental agencies didn't have vehicles available.Next was the toll pass. I declined the $3.89, per day, toll pass (approx. $100 for 7 tolls @ $1 apiece). The toll pass is permanently stuck to the window, so the toll personnel wouldn't allow me to pay the toll because the toll pass opens the gate even though it doesn't pay the toll. Maybe put the toll pass in a holder attached to the windshield so it can be removed when people decline the toll pass.While driving through the mountains, on the way to Quito, the brakes stopped working properly. The brake peddle went to the floor, but barely stopped the vehicle. I had to downshift to avoid an accident with a vehicle a good 15' in front of me while I was only going 25 miles per hour. We swapped out the car in Quito for another disaster of a car that overheated several times (see my review for Fox Rent a Car Quito North). I had to wait several different times for the car to cool down, bought and paid for the antifreeze coolant, and put it in myself. When I turned in the car, the manager refused to reimburse me for the coolant.While I was there the same guy (manager?) told a couple that was renting a car from Europcar (which owns Fox Rent A Car) that buying insurance from them is the law in Ecuador and if he didn't believe him he could go to another rental agency and confirm it. The renter walked down to another agency, and they said there was no law requiring that the insurance be purchased. The "manager" then changed his story to say that Europcar requires it.WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!!!

Peter Uttero: Maylin did a fantastic job helping us with our rental. She was detailed with her explanations of vehicles, insurance options, mileage, etc. Would highly recommend sixt based off our experience with Maylin alone. Car was very nice and clean. Vehicles all appear to be pretty new and have all the modern amenities anyone should want or need.

Alex Perez: Traveling from the States to Ecuador for the first time and Sixt took great care of me start to finish! Prices were competitive and similar to other companies. Their stall was located right in the terminal and I picked up the car in the parking lot 50 yards away. I had absolutely zero hassle getting the car. If I'm ever back down here, I'll gladly use them again. I only hope the super friendly and super helpful Meilin is working!

This left my mother and I stranded in Guayaquil and messed up our travel plans. There was zero communication about the issue and no attempt to help us find a solution. I had picked Avis because I thought they were reliable, however as many reviewers mention they are quite the opposite. Don't take the risk, pick another company.
luis ramos: Un desagradable servicio de la empresa Avis Guayaquil qué dice contar con la certificación ISO 9001 a la calidad de servicio, en la que habiendo reservado hace 2 meses un vehículo para 6 pasajeros al día de hoy no estaba disponible y el funcionario del counter no dió ninguna explicación real peor una solución, el señor Wilson Pilataxi que está en el counter de servicio al cliente, me informó que el señor Santiago Robayo es el gerente de la agencia con quién no se puede hablar porque dice que su padre ha fallecido (a quién expreso mis condolencias), luego me dijo que el coordinador del counter se llama Graciela Moreira pero que ella está en su día libre tampoco puedo recibir llamada por tanto no puede solucionar ningún problema, este individuo Pilataxi solo se disculpaba diciendo que no era culpa de él porque recién había cambiado de turno, realmente es triste y vergonzoso que este tipo de compañía en nuestra ciudad tengan personal tan poco preparado, poco eficiente y nada agradable, sin importarle la satisfacción del cliente, no dando un servicio satisfactorio para sus clientes ante problemas causados por la misma empresa, en mi caso no hubo solución para el problema.

My credit card allows me to avoid insurance but the agency told me that I had to do it anywayWhen picking up the car I realized the scam I had just been billed and went to complain to the manager who refunded me the difference. If I hadn't asked for anything, I would have been robbed. Attention the agents are interested in the sale so have no qualms about scamming you!!!!!

We mentioned we had purchased insurance but she told us that the insurance we purchased doesn't work for them. Why would you sell an insurance that isn't going to work for the location we are picking up the car from. Terrible experience.

They hit my card (no debit OR AMEX) for $5,000, which I got back after the rental before I left the airport. Not expected, but nice. I forgot to fill the tank ($20 on the street $30 at the counter). Very nice!!On the good side-I had pd for the rental and 3 people ahead of me with unpd reservations(?) were not given cars. Carnival! Pay for your car!!! No GrandVitara's left so I got a DongFeng (DogSh-t) - nice enough, but no power for the mtn's. Bigger some yes, but not same-same. Harder to park.With regard to the other reviews - seems to be a theme. Listen folks you're not renting a car in Minneapolis where I can walk through jump in anything I'd like, get scanned at the gate, and drive away. This is a smaller operation that rents many of it's cars at 2:AM when the International flights arrive. There's two dudes working, one's reasonably intelligent and speaks English, the other one moves cars around and cleans'm. Take lots of pictures, read your contract and try to remember you're not in Atlanta. It will take 30-60 minutes. If there's a line the guy will check in two people, close the kiosk, go out to the parking lot and settle the two into their cars, and come back for two more. It's the same at the National kiosk next door.If you're going to Quito (don't know how to plan this, but...), there is one day a week you cannot drive a specific license plate. Ex: Ending in 1 or 2 no driving on Mondays, 3/4 on Tuesdays, etc. The example my not be correct, but you get the jist. Do some homework. We found it no problem to leave the car parked because there is literally no where to park in Quito. I've found places in Paris and on Broadway but not Quito.It is super easy to get around. Cabs a everywhere (beware they will run you over), but they're cheap - starting flag $0.49. 10 Blocks $1.ish. Uber is great - catch your first and offer $20 cash for the day(Guay and Quito). S/he will circle the block until you come out of the market with your loot. Lots of female Ubers - I don't think women are allowed to get a cab license. Only an observation 'cause I didn't see any female cabbies.Back to Avis - very much on the up and up. Very professional and respectful. We used Booking.

I am extremely disappointed with this entity representing a reputable car rental company like AVIS.

When we returned our rental, a rear light had a crack. The company gave us one with a bigger engine when we told we wanted to drive in the mountains as well. We did not have to pay any extra. I made an online reservation to pick up my car on a certain day, I arrived there and they DID NOT HAVE a car for me, what kind of service do they offer, according to the girl who attended me, she said that I would have to wait because unfortunately there was no car for me and that I had no other option to wait until THEY had a car available!For a change, DANIELA, the girl who helped me wanted to give me a car with a flat tire the next day, which was when there was a car ready. Whoever thinks of giving a car like that! AWFUL Company!They gave me a GPS that never worked and they also charged me for it and put a ticket that I never had. This is the worst service I have received !!!He does not deserve. Not even a star this companyALAMO CORP never reply my call or email about my refund I'm still waiting to get my credit $187.00 please don't waste your time with this company better to look for another company!! Iñigo Basurto: La peor experiencia en alquiler de coche de mi vida. Resulta peligroso alquilar un coche en este compañia. Después de pagar unos 700 dólares por un alquiler de 20 días, salí de viaje y cuando se hizo de noche resulta que no tenía luces, ni tampoco funcionaban los limpiaparabrisas. Como no tenía un teléfono ecuatoriano para llamar a la compañia, pare en un pueblo donde me pudieron cambiar las luces y hacerlas funcionar por 10 dólares. La compañía se niega a reintegrarme los 10 dólares. Estoy indignado, no sólo resulta peligroso alquilar en Álamo si no que además se niegan a compensarte ni siquiera las reparaciones que tuve que hacer en el coche para poder seguir el viaje.
Paul Covington: Atrociously run, liars, and unprofessional. The experience was horrible both with this office specifically and Alamo corporate. Will use another company the next time. Read the story below if you want.Reserved an automatic a couple weeks in advance for when my plane landed late on a Saturday night. Not only did they not have a car ready for my reservation ready when I arrived, they had no cars period. Told me they would “probably” have one tomorrow night. Was lucky my hotel was kind enough to send us a van.Called Alamo’s corporate number at 8am ET the next morning to explain the situation and that it was absolutely necessary we have a car ASAP as it was our only method of travel to the cities we have plans and reservations in for the remainder of the trip. The rep I spoke with at least seemed concerned. She put me on hold called and the local office. When she clicked back over to me, she told me they were preparing a car and just needed to clean it. She told me they would call me in a few minutes, at most 30. This sounded good.An hour and a half goes by and there’s no call. The office numbers on their emails and Google don’t work either. Naturally. So I call the 800 corporate number again. This time I get sent to the “escalation team”. The rep also seemed very concern and said she was going to work on this. She told me she thought this was unacceptable and was very apologetic. She said she would personally email me and call me in the next hour. This was yesterday at 10am and I haven’t heard from her still.We decided just to go back to the office around 1pm. They told me they still hadn’t gotten a single car back since I was there the night before. Interesting seeing as I had been told they were cleaning one earlier that morning.We get a call again a couple hours later saying they have a car, brand new 2020, but it is manual. We said that is fine as we needed whatever we could get. We had tried other places at this point and they were out of cars. They said they would call us shortly when it was clean and inspected. We never hear from them. Four hours go by and we call and they tell us “they found a problem and can’t let us use it.” Hard to believe. But even if it were true, why wouldn’t you call and tell us that?? We told them we still wanted to keep our reservation and please let us know when we could a car comes in. We were told we are first on the waiting list.It’s now half way through the next day and I still haven’t heard anything from them. Luckily, we found a mom and pop rental place across town and have a car to travel. If we didn’t know people personally in Ecuador, this would have not happened. We would have been stranded and unable to participate in our plans while Alamo can’t give us a single call back or e-mail. It will be interesting to see if anyone ever follows up with me. If it were just the local office, that would be bad enough but it was the whole company. Two thumbs down.
Ernesto Cedeno: They did not have the car requested at the time for rental (an Automatic drive), asked us to come back half a day later for it. Very unprofessional, do not take rental request if you will not have vehicle.

Aldric AUER: Nothing like a mechanical problem to test the service of a car rental company. Hello The leaflet printed with the mobile number to contact in case of concern is wrong. Once you have the chance to reach them on another number, they give you conflicting information and leave you in trouble. They give you appointments that they don't honor and when they finally answer, they are 1h30 late without any alert while their agency is 15' away... in short, we do not recommend, the service is really catastrophic.

daniel salazar: Bad experience, I reserved a double cab van and when I go to pick up they have a compact car for me. They do not give me another solution, therefore I will not rent with them again.
